Middle School Teacher Fired and Criminally Detained Over Student Molestation
A middle school teacher in central China's Henan Province has been dismissed, stripped of his teaching license and criminally detained on molestation charges.
Education authorities in Guangshan County announced the dismissal on Thursday, about five months after the teacher was put under a 10-day administrative detention. Police have reopened the case and now hold the teacher, surnamed Liu, 54, on criminal charges. The county said officials responsible for the earlier handling of the case would also face disciplinary action.
"I finally got justice for my daughter," the girl's father, surnamed Wang, told Jimu News. "A huge weight has lifted." He said he plans to hire a lawyer to pursue further action against Liu.
The incident took place on November 7, 2025, when Liu took the 15-year-old student out of school following a dispute with a classmate. He allegedly took her to a restaurant and later to a hotel, where the girl said he made unwanted physical advances despite her repeated refusals.
The girl's father reported the case the following day. On November 19, Guangshan police issued Liu a 10-day administrative detention. The family pushed for criminal charges, arguing the punishment failed to reflect either the nature of the alleged assault or Liu's position of authority as her teacher.
A psychological evaluation found the girl suffering from severe depression, severe phobia, severe paranoia and other symptoms. She was hospitalized on January 28 after a medication overdose, according to a medical record provided by her father to Jimu News.
She has since transferred to another school and is receiving counseling arranged by local authorities, Wang said.
