Beijing health authorities have fined rapper Jiang Wenhan – known as GALI – after he was caught smoking on stage during a performance earlier this month, violating indoor smoking ban.

The Chaoyang District Health Commission confirmed to Xiaoxiang Morning Post that it had issued a penalty under the Beijing Tobacco Control Regulation, which prohibits smoking in all indoor public venues.

GALI performed on November 7 at an indoor music venue in the 798 Art District. Videos and photos circulating online show him lighting a cigarette and smoking in front of the crowd despite the venue's "no smoking" policy.

The incident sparked widespread criticism online, with many users questioning why a performer would openly flout public health rules at a commercial event.

According to Beijing's regulation, smoking in indoor public places is prohibited, with violators facing a fine of 50 yuan, or 200 yuan if they refuse to comply. Stricter penalties of up to 500 yuan apply in venues primarily serving minors.
