Registration open for November's Shanghai Yangtze Beach Half Marathon

Registration for the 2025 Shanghai Yangtze Beach Half Marathon, the first to take place along the Yangtze River waterfront in Baoshan District, is now open.

The competition, scheduled for November 16, will include a half-marathon of around 21 kilometers with 6,000 entries, as well as a 5-kilometer family run with 2,000 slots available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The course was created to highlight the waterfront, ecology, and industrial past of the river.

The Yangtze riverbank stretch is around 12.5km. Runners will pass through the Wusong Paotaiwan National Wetland Park.

The route then continues past Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal, Asia's busiest cruise liner port, as well as landmarks including the Sea World shopping complex, Changtan Concert Hall, and Changtan Tower.

Registration will open through September 19. Lottery results for the half-marathon will be announced on September 26. Entry fees are 120 yuan (US$16.7) for the half-marathon and 50 yuan for the family run.

Half-marathon runners must be at least 16 years old. Participants over 65 and minors under 18 must provide a signed guardian consent form. The family run is open to children aged 6 to 13 accompanied by a guardian under 60.

More than 1,200 volunteers and 600 security staff will assist on race day, with full medical services and an electronic timing system to ensure safety and accuracy.
