Woman Removed from Shanghai Masters After Disrupting Medvedev-De Minaur Quarterfinal
A woman was escorted out of the Rolex Shanghai Masters on Thursday night after repeatedly shouting during the quarterfinal between Daniil Medvedev and Alex de Minaur, briefly halting play and drawing fellow spectators' ire.
According to a police statement released on Friday, the 46-year-old woman, surnamed Dai, is a registered psychiatric patient from another province who had traveled to Shanghai that day.
She shouted loudly throughout the match, disrupting the order of the venue at Qizhong Tennis Stadium in Minhang District. Police officers quickly intervened and removed her from the stands.
Authorities later confirmed that Dai has been taken to a mental health facility for treatment.
Videos circulating online show Dai yelling incessantly despite repeated warnings. Her behavior prompted frustrated spectators to shout back, "Get out!" The match was briefly suspended until staff escorted her out, after which the crowd erupted in applause.
Russia's Medvedev beat his Australian opponent 6-4, 6-4 to set up a semifinal against unseeded Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech.
