Airports across several major Chinese cities are reportedly stepping up security inspections on Romoss and Anker power banks after recent product recalls raised safety concerns.
Passengers at airports in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Chengdu, and Changsha have reported increased scrutiny, with some airports banning specific models or requiring special clearance documents for travel.
Recalled batches from both companies are explicitly prohibited at certain locations.
While airport authorities have not announced anything specific on the issue, it is obvious that the heightened security follows the recalls of the product by the two manufacturers earlier this month.
On June 16, Shenzhen Romoss Technology Co. announced the recall of approximately 491,000 portable chargers produced between June 5, 2023, and July 31, 2024.
The affected power banks contain battery materials that may overheat and potentially ignite under extreme conditions.

Anker Innovations followed suit on June 20, recalling more than 710,000 units of seven power bank models.
The company cited safety concerns stemming from unauthorized material changes in battery cells by a supplier.
These developments have raised broader concerns about product safety, and airport security is acting on it, especially as the travel season ramps up.
Air passengers are advised to check airline and airport guidelines before traveling with portable chargers.
