Experience the wild at dusk with 'Sunset Zoo Walk'
Shanghai Zoo's popular "Animal Adventure Night," a summer staple, returns with more sessions and a new "Sunset Zoo Walk" option to further enrich visitors' experience.
A total of 40 sessions (two to three per week) will be offered between June and October this year, catering to both families and adult explorers. These sessions will be organized across four main categories:
- Adult Night Tours (ages 18 and above): six sessions (an increase from two in 2024)
- Independent Children's Sleepover Camping (ages 8 and above): four sessions
- Regular Family Night Tours (ages 5-11): 23 sessions
- Toddler Family Night Tours (ages 3-5): seven sessions
Professional guides will accompany the groups on a three-hour tour, during which soft, non-intrusive flashlights will be used to observe animals without disturbing their natural behavior. The zoo is home to a wide variety of nocturnal and crepuscular animals, including captive species such as tigers, wolves, leopards and red pandas, as well as local wildlife like crickets, green pond frogs, geckos, black-crowned night herons, bats, Amur hedgehogs and raccoon dogs. The zoo's night tours provide visitors with rare opportunities to glimpse the hidden lives of these animals.
The zoo has launched the "Sunset Zoo Walk," a newly-designed tour taking place before nightfall. This two-hour dusk stroll, which was launched on April 30, will occur twice this month – on June 21 for adults and June 24 for families with children aged 5 and older. Led by zookeepers, participants will have the opportunity to visit the primate, herbivore and carnivore zones and observe the animals in their more relaxed, pre-nighttime state.
