The 5th Shanghai Global Talents Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition has entered its semifinal stage, drawing 914 high-potential projects from around the world to Baoshan district for four days of evaluation and engagement.

Since its launch in March, the competition attracted over 14,000 applications — a record high. Following a rigorous selection process, the most promising projects have advanced to the semifinals, with strong emphasis on hard tech and original innovation. Areas of focus span artificial intelligence, biomedicine, integrated circuits, smart manufacturing, and green technology, closely aligned with Shanghai's key industries and underscoring the city's growing role as a global hub for innovation.

Organizers have expanded policy and financial support to accelerate the landing and scaling of standout projects in Shanghai. This year's edition offers enhanced access to capital, industry linkages, and talent resources. Winning contestants and their projects may qualify for up to 10 million yuan ($1.38 million) in personal credit financing and up to 30 million yuan in business credit. High-tech enterprises and specialized SMEs meeting specific criteria may be eligible for credit support of up to 100 million yuan. Newly established companies created by the competition winners can also obtain access guarantees of equivalent scale.

In addition to financing incentives, enterprises not yet registered in Shanghai may benefit from up to 300 square meters of complimentary office space. One-stop services will assist qualified companies in navigating policy channels for high-tech enterprises and SMEs. Professional support will also be provided on intellectual property protection, including infringement risk assessment and core IP portfolio development.

On the talent front, winners will have the opportunity to apply for residency under Shanghai's talent programs and may receive priority in accessing accommodation designated for high-level professionals. Gold, silver, and bronze awardees will receive entry subsidies of 100,000 yuan, 50,000 yuan, and 30,000 yuan, respectively.

To further encourage global engagement and talent flow, a recruitment policy has been introduced. Qualified institutions or individuals that refer successful participants may be eligible for bonuses of up to 500,000 yuan in incentives.
