Shanghai boasts 61,490 sports venues: Report

As of the end of 2024, Shanghai housed 61,490 sports facilities of various types, covering an area of 65.67 million square meters, with the average per capita sports facility area standing at 2.65 square meters, according to a recent survey conducted by the Shanghai Administration of Sports on the city's sports facilities.

Shanghai boasts 56,121 sports facilities that meet national standards, occupying an area of 60.33 million square meters. The city has 5,369 venues that can serve as sports venues, which include 5,200 fitness squares occupying about 3.8 million square meters, 98 indoor fitness facilities spanning nearly 27,000 square meters, and 71 large-scale competition venues taking up roughly 1.6 million square meters.

The report also provides a detailed breakdown of sports facilities based on their type and the sports they cater to, including standard major venues, ball sports facilities, ice and snow sports facilities, and fitness facilities.

The city is home to 1,657 track and field venues, 1,094 swimming venues, 18,926 ball sports venues, 34 ice and snow sports venues, and 18,595 national fitness trails.

In general, Shanghai features a significant number of venues dedicated to popular sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, tennis, as well as facilities for ice and snow sports.
