Shanghai to host FIBA women's 3x3 finals for four years

Shanghai will host the FIBA Women's 3x3 Basketball World Finals for the next four years, starting this weekend.

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) signed an agreement with Project Redwings, which will be the exclusive operator of the event in China through 2028.

The 2025 finals take place on Saturday and Sunday at the north square of the West Bund Grand Theater in Xuhui. Admission is free, but visitors can make a reservation through the "West Bund Life" WeChat mini program.

Eight women's teams will compete, including the Netherlands and its U25 squad, Spain, Romania's CS Rapid Bucharest, Canada, Mongolia's Ulaanbaatar Amazons, Azerbaijan, and the Shanghai Redwings, who will make their debut as the host team.

Project Redwings also signed a partnership with West Bund Group to upgrade facilities and strengthen the city's role as a sports destination.

Officials said the event will help connect basketball with tourism, business, and culture while promoting public fitness.

The competition is free for the public to watch at the West Bund Grand Theater North Square, an open-air venue by the Huangpu River.

The FIBA Women's 3x3 series is the top global event in its category, which also counts toward Olympic qualification. It is expected to bring more international attention to Shanghai's role as a host of world-class sports, according to the Xuhui government.
