The Shanghai Grand Theater's new season, which opens in September, will feature the "Bavarian Resonance" opera, "Les Misérables" concerts and the Mariinsky Ballet's "Le Corsaire" among others.

Running through July 2026, the season includes 860 performances from 75 productions, spanning opera, musicals, classical concerts, dance, and drama.

"Falstaff" by Shanghai Opera House will open the new season on September 5-7.

The "Bavarian Resonance" opera festival will begin in October with performances of two classic operas – Wagner's "Der Fliegende Holländer" and Verdi's "Otello" (concert version) – as well as a concert by the Bayerisches Staatsorchester.

Soprano Renée Fleming, a five-time Grammy Award winner, and bass baritone Sir Bryn Terfel will perform on October 19 and 26, respectively.

The Marriinsky Ballet will return to the city in October. After performing a gala and "La Bayadère" at last year's Shanghai International Arts Festival, the Russian Ballet ensemble is returning this year with "Le Corsaire."

The highly anticipated "Les Misérables" concerts will be staged from November 4 to December 28, with a total of 64 shows.

In February and March next year, the Grand Theater will stage the musical "Matilda" from London's West End. In addition, the concert version of Grand Theater's self-produced musical "Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812" will also be staged in 2026.

Wagner's "Die Walküre" will be performed over April 24–26 as part of the Grand Theater's three-year "Bayreuth in Shanghai" opera initiative.

On October 25, Japanese artist Daito Manabe and the avant-garde dance company Elevenplay will present their new dance installation work, "+1+1+1+," which will highlight the transforming potential of technology on stage.
