[SH Street Chic] 23 Good-looking Guys & Gals in Shanghai for October

The spooky season is officially coming to an end, but the fashionable season is still with us. I will be bold and declare October officially the most stylish month in Shanghai; that is an objective fact, no objections shall be accepted.

If you're a regular CNS reader, you are familiar with our Street Chic formats. I try to catch fashionable (or at least trying to be) folk, overcome my social anxiety, and ask them for a photo and an interview.

And it is all fun and dandy; however, I am a 20-something Gen Z who can't focus on doing the same thing over and over again. So this time, we are shaking some things up.

In this October edition, I will be introducing two new formats, both helpful and visually appealing. "Steal Their Look" and "Look Over There." The first one is my personal highlights of style and glamor, with helpful reference pictures of similar (or the same if I can find it) garments for you, the audience, to easily incorporate into your own personal wardrobes. And the second format is basically a curation of "in-the-moment" street-style photos of good-looking people. Just to give you all the most inspiration possible.

Steal Their Look – Murphy

Caption: Murphy is an international model and a friend of mine. Currently residing in Shanghai, mostly drinking coffee and taking mirror selfies at random stores, a kindred spirit. He has a unique style of blending feminine clothing with more edgy accessories and big (from experience) personality. We as a society are slowly shifting our expectations of gender expression towards neutrality. But not in a cringe 2018 empowerment and non-conformity way, rather in a sophisticated, non-chalant manner.

Steal Their Look – Mira

Caption: Mira is a fellow blogger and model. Her style, for me personally, represents what Shanghai girlies are featuring the most in recent seasons. Somehow, her outfit manages to mix Y2K, western, vintage and very Chinese aesthetic all together. We adore her monochrome approach to curation of this outfit, scrumptious shades of brown are balanced out by all the different textures and materials. Amazing.

Steal Their Look – Unknown

Caption: Here we have a young gentleman with whom I found in a matching adidas windbreaker, something of a hot item recently, among the stylish. Here is why this look works: a neutral bottom half with a more feminine bag, plus a primary colored top half, blue and yellow with the red, vintage-looking cap. Simple, effective, gender-neutral.

Street Chic Interview – Nono

Besides stunning visuals, I managed to grab a couple of fascinating personalities. I present to you, Nono. A local fashion and style blogger with a fiery personality and no concept of social anxiety. When I asked her for an interview and a quick photo, we ended up filming a whole skit together and taking about a hundred photos of us posing and serving /redacted/. It is not the first time I saw Nono on Shanghai's streets. I believe her XHS popped up once or twice in my feed. So I guess I should be on the lookout for my face appearing unexpectedly alongside her.

Street Chic Interview – Emma

Emma was the one who approached us first, actually. She is an educator in Shanghai, just came back from Milan, and is now teaching local students to make art portfolios to apply to colleges. I was a part of her little project that involved picking a card with a word and placing it on some part of my body. I picked "joy" and placed it on my solar plexus. Very deep, I know.

Now here is a new concept we're trying out ... the Look Over There Gallery.

Here, we tried to capture the stylish passers-by with their most natural habits. Drinking coffee, smoking a fag, or just rushing somewhere. It didn't help that seemingly half of Shanghai was in that area on Saturday, with just as many other street photographers competing for the best shot, but we tried our best.

Look Over There, the gents

Look Over There, the ladies

Look Over There, the couples
