Actress Jin Chen apologizes for 'fake driver' in car crash
Chinese actress Jin Chen issued a public apology on social media on Thursday after police confirmed a friend had falsely claimed to be the driver following a car accident involving the star in Zhejiang Province.
The incident, which occurred in March 2025 but recently sparked online controversy, involved Jin crashing her vehicle into a wall in Shaoxing.
According to a police statement released on Thursday, Jin was driving a black SUV with Shanghai license plates when she swerved to avoid a dog, hitting a road sign and a village house wall.
The crash caused minor injuries to the three people in the car, including Jin.
Police investigation revealed that Jin, suffering from a facial injury, left the scene immediately to seek medical treatment in Shanghai, accompanied by a friend named Liu.
Another companion, surnamed Xu, stayed behind to handle the police report and falsely claimed to be the driver.
"I am deeply sorry for the negative impact this incident has caused," Jin wrote on her Weibo account at around 5pm on Thursday.
"I accept all criticism and will cooperate fully in any further investigation." She also posted a photo of her facial injury in the comments section to explain her urgent departure from the scene.
Police stated that while Xu lied about being the driver, no insurance claim was filed, ruling out insurance fraud. Authorities are processing the traffic violation and investigating the false testimony.
