Alive After All! Chinese Rapper Returns From the Dead
Caption: Kid Jake, a Chinese rapper, has surprised fans by reappearing a month after being believed dead in a vehicle incident in the United States.

Chinese rapper Kid Jake jolted back into public view on Friday – almost a month after the internet mourned his "death" – a comeback that has triggered disbelief and accusations that he staged the hoax himself.

In a message circulated to fan groups, the artist, whose real name is Wen Bo, denied the reports and said he had been unable to address the rumors earlier because he lost his phone in the accident.

Wen said he spent the past several weeks in seclusion, gathering evidence to refute the misinformation and completing work on a new album.

But his explanation has done little to ease skepticism. On Chinese social media, many users openly accused the 27-year-old of using the "resurrection" to draw attention to his music.

News of the 27-year-old rapper's death appeared on October 20, after claims that he had been killed in a highway collision in the US.

Adding to the confusion, a funeral notice, purportedly posted by his mother on her WeChat Moments, stated, "My beloved son Wenbo has passed away. Thank you for your care and support over the years. May he rest peacefully and happily in the next life."

Witnesses reported that the vehicle carrying Kid Jake sustained extensive rear-end damage, with an alleged "friend" describing the scene as "nothing but wreckage."

Friends and fellow rappers also shared condolences in October. These tributes further fueled belief in his death before Friday's unexpected reappearance.

Known for his abstract lyrical style and his widely publicized stunt – interrupting a Kanye West concert in Haikou in 2024 – Kid Jake has long been regarded as an "absurdist" figure in Chinese hip-hop.

His latest stunt, however, has triggered backlash across Chinese social media, where many netizens are questioning whether the rapper exploited a death hoax for publicity.
