Chinese Actor Appeals for Help as Cousin Vanishes in Cambodia
Chinese actor Tong Zhuo issued a public plea on Monday after his cousin had gone missing overseas, drawing widespread concern.
Tong wrote that his cousin, Li Yiheng, disappeared on November 13 after leaving home for work. Despite continuous efforts, the family has been unable to locate him. Tong also shared a detailed message from Li's mother, who has been seeking help online.
According to her account, Li's phone briefly showed activity in Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia, after he went missing.
"After he disappeared, he managed to send a few blurry voice messages. His voice sounded extremely weak," she wrote. "Even now, we still have no way of confirming his actual situation."
The case quickly drew attention on Chinese social media, prompting an official response from the Chinese embassy in Cambodia today.
The embassy said it had taken note of the reports and had contacted Cambodian police to verify the situation and gather information. It added that it would continue to follow the case closely and work to protect the safety and lawful rights of Chinese citizens in Cambodia.
