The 12th China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair (CSITF) opened at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center on Thursday, showcasing cutting-edge digital transformation fruits and breakthroughs from 22 countries and regions. This year's event places a heavy spotlight on humanoid robotics, commercial cryptography, and brain-computer interfaces (BCIs).

Humanoid robots are stealing the show, pouring coffee and interacting with potential investors across multiple booths. One notable highlight is a robotic symphony orchestra presented by LinkerBot, a dexterous hand specialist whose components are already being used in the manufacturing lines of tech giants like Samsung, Huawei and Midea.

As data security converges with cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI), commercial cryptography has emerged as a major focus – particularly its integration with quantum communications in the banking and securities sectors. Making its exhibition debut, the Shanghai Pudong Research Institute of Cryptology, founded last year, is showcasing its progress toward building a world-class testing and certification platform.

Meanwhile, the three-day fair's health-tech sector is anchored by advanced BCIs, illustrating their rapid evolution at the intersection of AI and healthcare.

On the international stage, a dedicated exhibition zone features 74 overseas enterprises backed by 26 foreign trade promotion agencies.

The Swiss city of Lausanne is featured as a guest city of honor, anchoring a pavilion of 18 leading institutions focused on life sciences, precision engineering and sustainability. Highlights include Biopôle, a life sciences park housing around 200 companies, and FinalSpark, which turned heads by demonstrating the world's first bioprocessor powered by living human neurons.

"The fair helps build trust, facilitate dialogue, and create the relationships that are essential for long-term cooperation," said Pierre-Antoine Hildbrand, municipal councillor and vice-mayor of Lausanne.
