Authorities in east China's Jiangxi Province ordered hikers involved in a deadly off-limits climb to repay 74,000 yuan in rescue costs.
On September 27, 11 hikers ignored restrictions and entered a closed section of Lushan's Wulao Peak Scenic Area. One hiker fell from a cliff and died, while the other 10 were rescued after more than 24 hours, according to previous reports.
The organizer of the hike was previously detained for 10 days, and the remaining participants were fined 200 yuan each.
Officials said the case is the first in Jiangxi to hold adventure tourists financially responsible for the cost of their own rescue.
