'Homecoming' App in Taiwan Stirs Discussion Over 'One-Click Allegiance Shift'

A mobile app called Guijia, or Homecoming, has gone viral in Taiwan for featuring a button labeled "One-click to pledge allegiance to the motherland," sparking heated debate across the Strait.

Taiwan media reported that the app has been circulating widely online. Its homepage displays the slogan "One country, two systems, peaceful reunification" alongside China's national flag, with a prominent red button offering users the option to "pledge allegiance to the motherland with one click."

While the app's developer remains unidentified, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council confirmed that it was privately created rather than launched by any official mainland institution.

Downloads and page views are reportedly continuing to rise.

Responding to the discussion, Zhang Han, the newly appointed spokesperson for the Taiwan affairs office, said yesterday that Homecoming app was a creative idea from an individual netizen. Its popularity, she added, reflects the shared wish of people on both sides of the Strait for early reunion and national unity.

Zhang also dismissed the DPP's accusations of "cognitive warfare" as political theatrics intended to stoke cross-Strait tensions.
