Musk's Son Goes Viral in Beijing During Trump's China Visit
Elon Musk's son became an unexpected social media talking point in China after appearing with the Tesla chief executive at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing during US President Donald Trump's China visit.
The boy, known publicly by the nickname X, was photographed wearing a Chinese-style vest and carrying a tiger-head bag, a look that quickly shifted attention from a high-level business and diplomatic setting to traditional-style children's fashion.
Musk wrote in Chinese on X on Thursday: "My son is learning Mandarin," after images of the child circulated widely online.
The boy was photographed walking hand in hand with Musk in the Great Hall of the People, standing out among business executives in dark suits with a pale blue-gray Chinese-style silk vest and a small folk-art-inspired shoulder bag.
Red Star News quoted a shop consultant for Chinese niche custom brand Sheicai Chu as saying the vest worn by X was one of the brand's designs. The report said the parent-child style is priced at 970 yuan (US$134) on the brand's official sales platform and usually requires 15 to 20 working days for customization.
The bag also attracted attention, with some social media users initially mistaking it for a dragon-themed accessory. Guangxi Daily quoted the head of local original brand Ya Xiaoqi Handcraft as saying it was a tiger-head bag made in Guangxi by local embroiderers.
The brand said the design was inspired by traditional tiger-head hats and shoes from northwest China, with embroidery motifs intended to carry auspicious meanings. The bag is priced at 398 yuan and was listed at 338 yuan after discounts.
