Shanghai Disney Unveils Expansion Push Ahead of 10th Anniversary
As Shanghai Disney Resort approaches its 10th anniversary in 2026, multiple construction and expansion projects are underway–the largest wave since the park opened. An interactive BDX robot from "Star Wars" will also be introduced soon.
On January 20, Resort President and General Manager Andrew Bolstein said several projects are progressing in parallel. The park's ninth themed land, based on Spider-Man, broke ground in May 2025. A third themed hotel has topped out and entered interior fit-out and façade construction. A fourth themed hotel, next to the park's main entrance and set to be the closest Disney hotel to the park, is also in early site preparation.
The resort will soon debut the Star Wars BDX robot, offering a new interactive experience through updated technology.
Toy Story's "Bullseye" will make its Shanghai debut during the upcoming Year of the Horse. While the official 10th anniversary date is June 16, 2026, celebrations will begin in March.
In October 2025, the park welcomed its 100 millionth visitor. Families and young adults remain the core audience, with a growing number of senior visitors. Following China's visa-free policy, overseas attendance rose sharply in 2025, led by visitors from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and South Korea. The resort is upgrading staff capabilities to further improve the experience for international guests.
