A consortium of five Chinese state-owned enterprises, such as Guosheng Group and Spacecom Satellite Technology, has officially launched a new offshore rocket-launching entity in Shanghai. The venture, named Commercial Aerospace Sea Launch Technology, marks a significant step in the city's strategic push to become a premier national center for the commercial space industry.

According to a report by Yicai, the newly formed company plans to operate across a broad spectrum of the aerospace value chain. Its core activities will encompass rocket manufacturing, satellite networking, and specialized offshore engineering, alongside the management of industrial parks and capital operations.

Joining Guosheng and Spacecom in the partnership are China Aerospace Science & Technology Commercial Launch Vehicle Group, China Offshore Engineering & Technology, and the Xinzhuang Industrial Zone Economic & Technological Development. By pooling these diverse resources, the company aims to streamline the complexities of launching payloads from sea-based platforms, a method that offers increased flexibility and safety for commercial missions.

The establishment of this company underscores Shanghai's commitment to accelerating its commercial aerospace ecosystem, integrating high-end manufacturing with advanced maritime logistics.
