The Power Station of Art, in collaboration with the Collection de l'Art Brut in Lausanne, is hosting the exhibition A Walk on the Wild Side: Artworks from the Collection de l'Art Brut and Elsewhere.

This exhibition marks the debut of French artist Jean Dubuffet's renowned Art Brut collection in China, representing the largest display of its kind in the country.

Art Brut, a term coined by Dubuffet in 1945, refers to artworks created by self-taught artists who exist outside the mainstream art world. These artists often live on the fringes of society, crafting unique works that defy conventional artistic standards. Their creations are deeply personal, usually using unconventional materials and methods, and serve as a form of self-expression and refuge.

The exhibition features 259 works by 52 artists, accompanied by important documents, archives, and videos from the Collection de l'Art Brut. Highlights include pieces by early inspirations of Dubuffet, such as Adolf Wolfli and Aloise Corbaz, alongside works by four self-taught Chinese artists.

Divided into six sections, the exhibition explores how Art Brut artists engage with the world around them. A dedicated area focuses on Dubuffet himself, showcasing archival materials that trace the evolution of the Art Brut concept.
